Village Life:
A three week test (March 2000)

During Africa Orientation Course,
part of the experience is spending
3 weeks in a village setting.
A one day drive from Yaounde
brought us to the north-west provence
of Cameroon, not far from the border
with Nigeria. We traveled in what
they call bush taxis. This one is a nice
29 seater, Toyota, but dust was still
able to find it's way in somehow!

We were welcomed by the
village council with traditional
music and dancing. This xylophone
is made from hard wood pieces
laid over banana tree trunks.

This is our host family.
While we were there we
lived, ate, worked and did
almost everything with them.
We thank God for placing us
with a family who were so kind
and easy to get along with.

The father, Leo, is a farmer, hunter and
trapper. Andy made a sling shot to go
bird hunting with Leo.

This small animal below is called "cutting grass"
and it tastes a little like rabbit meat. Leo
is burning off the hair over the wood fire
in the kitchen house.

Kristen learned a lot of village kitchen
skills from Mommy Paschaline.
Here Kristen is pounding yams.
Its hard work!

We really enjoyed life in the village. We are praying that God will prepare an equally warm and welcoming host family where He sends us in the future. Until we are assigned to a specific tribal group, we are serving in the administrative offices in Lome, Togo.
