Village living accommodations

The first village home was a row of two room "apartments" or what they call "chambre salon" in French. We were in the furthest one behind the blue screening, and there were two other families staying behind the yellow and pink curtains. This house was made with cement blocks, stucco, and a tin roof.

The second place we stayed had cement plaster on the front side and a good tin roof. Notice the same screen hanging in the door again, and our water barrel in front.

The rest of the building was made with mud bricks. This two room house was all to ourselves, notice the size compared to the car.

both bricks and mortar are mud with stones

We bought a roll of screen so we could staple it on all the windows and doors.

Our rooms were part of the chief's compound. The surrounding huts are for his wives and children, as well as their wives and children. Behind the house were corn fields and a path towards the center of town.

The chief's daughters brought us water each day so we could cook and shower. On the right of this photo you can see the temporary latrine they made for us. The stones in front are for a shower, hang a cloth across the front bar if you want a door.  We hung our camp shower bags on the pole across the top. The back part is the outhouse hole with a wood cover.
There was a really nice view from our window. That's a mosque a few hundred yards away. We heard calls to prayer before dawn every morning, at dawn, at noon, before the sun set, and in the evening.

We divided the first room into kitchen on the left... ...and dining / living room space on the right.

It was nice to have a window next to the cooking area.
There were nice sunrise views from here too (see above).
The ceiling was made of woven raffia palm branches. There was a lot of night time activity up there.

Watch your head, the doorway from the first room to the bedroom was fairly low. There is not much space to take a picture since our Coleman air mattress and mosquito net take up most of the bed room.
